8 May 2009 - Manhattan NYC

This morning, woke up with sore calf. Too much exercise the day before. Had leftover for breakfast as we couldn't finish the Italian pasta the nite before.

Again, wanna save money and drove to a nearby train station to catch a train to NY Penn station. Parked at the roadside, thought it's free. Nothing is free in the US. After asking a pedestrian, he told us that one needs a parking permit to park. So, we parked at the North Elizabeth train station car park for USD 3.

Hm... noticed that something is not right. The cap of our car tyre kena vandalised. Wah... we paid USD 15 per day parking at the hotel. Like that pun boleh kena ripped off the cap. Cannot go back and scold the hotel management bcoz it's always "Park At Your Own Risk", even though you pay for parking.

These days, I really sueh. I waited, waited and waited. My PhD applications kena rejected one by one, slowly. Tinggal one more from UGA, in which my name is still on the waiting list. So, when rented a car, I chose to pay USD 250 more for the insurance. Now, the car insurance can be considered "worth" the money liao.

Tak sangka there's a conductor to "cut ticket". Just like the movie Polar Express.

New York City is famous for hecticness. Banyak orang, banyak kereta. People live up high rise buildings, kereta also live up high rise parking lots.

Empire State Building.

First time I saw HSBC on the soil of US.

The weird thing is, I got headache visiting the hectic London. In NYC, I didn't get headache. Hm... I should re-test my hypothesis. Most probably, in NYC the space is bigger.

See the yellow billboard "Late Show"? It's Late Show with David Letterman. I used to watch his show back in secondary school.

Bicycle tied to railings. Safe or not?

You say safe or not?

Taking a rest at Central Park. It stinks at Central Park coz there were many horses.

NY Chinatown. The biggest Chinatown in US.

Ah... this is Chinatown. Long time I didn't see wet market like this. Kind of reminisce the smell.

Having lunch at a Malaysian restaurant in Chinatown.
For USD 29, we had a nasi lemak, Penang assam laksa, beef rendang and char-kuey-teow.

My favourite nasi lemak.

Penang char-kuey-teow. Aiyoh... forgot to take photo of Penang assam laksa and beef rendang.

At M&M store. There's a "fortune teller", telling you which colour of M&M ngam you.

M&M chess set

Window shopping

Window shopping. 武松打虎。
Dinner at an Irish restaurant. We only ordered food for 3 people, it costs USD 53. Not becoz we're too poor to eat, bcoz the food is of big portion.

Mashed potato & sausages

Fish

Reuben
Transportation costs USD 45.50, including all the train rides, subway rides and parking at train station. Again, thank you Ti-Kong for it only started to drizzle when we headed back to the hotel. On this nite, I received my last PhD rejected letter, from UGA. Ti-Kong asked me to go back home.
