7 May 2009 - New Jersey

We stayed in New Jersey. I bought the ferry ticket departing from NJ. At 9:30am, we drove to the NJ Statue of Liberty State Park. So happy that it was a free parking. We walked walked walked and noticed that something was amiss. How come no people one? We asked a black guy exercising in the park. He told us that we need to walk down this 2-mile coastal pedestrian walkway to reach the ferry terminal or we could drive there.

So, we hopped into our Cobalt and drove to the ferry terminal. Nothing is free in the US. The parking costs USD 7. Unwilling to spend the USD 7, hubby and I dropped Papa Peh and Mama Peh at the parking lot of the ferry terminal and we drove back to the free parking lot. It was 10:30am. Our ferry departed at 11am. Huh... in order to save the USD 7, I need to run for 2 miles (3 km) within 30 minutes. I never managed to complete 1400-metre thru out my 5 years of secondary school's Pendidikan Jasmani exam. Now, I need to run 3000-metre within 30 minutes. When there's a will, there's a way. USD 7, USD 7, USD 7, run, run, run.

Finally, I managed to reach the ferry terminal at 10:55am. This is the lure of USD 7. Five more minutes left before the ferry departs. Tapi, where is Papa Peh and Mama Peh? There's nobody at the waiting area. We dashed out of the waiting area, turned left and squeezed my eyes to scan for the bayang of Papa Peh and Mama Peh. Couldn't sniff their scent either. Big wok. Would they be waiting for us at the parking lot? Cham...

Treasure hunt game began. Hubby ran out to the parking lot. I couldn't run anymore, just waited at the terminal. Luckily our ferry tickets were valid for the entire day and there was ferry departure for every 45 minutes. I wait... wait...wait... at the left, without realising that there was another entrance on the right. Papa Peh and Mama Peh were also wait...wait...wait... at the opposite entrance.

Felt very sorry for hubby. He was sweating profusely that morning, because of the USD 7 I refused to spend.

Just like the ferry terminal in Butterworth, Penang, there's a train station right at the ferry terminal. However, the train station in Butterworth is still in use today, not this one at NJ Statue of Liberty terminal. Does this green train station remind you of the movie Titanic, where the survivors gathered to have their names recorded?

Manhattan as backdrop

Ellis Island was the entry point of immigrants in those days

Learnt that BBQ is actually a Spanish word

I guess we are all very used to see the front side of the green lady.
How about the backside?

Mama Peh's finger on the lens of camera turned out to be the flame of torch!

Ti-Kong has been very kind to us. It was sky-dark-dark in the morning. When we stepped on the Liberty Island, it was blue-sky-white-cloud. When we left the Liberty Island, sky-dark-dark again.

Once we got out of the ferry, it started to pour cats and dogs. We waited for the rain to subside. Then, hubby and I took an hour to walk to our car. The same 2-mile walkway, I took 25 min to finish it in the morning, but an hour in the evening, in rain. Accomplishment of the day: I have saved USD 7.
