Local plants

I missed my old house very much. Everytime in my dream, the house I dreamt of, is always the house I grew up in.

I grew up in a big house, with a big compound (judging from today's "standard" because the new houses are small now). The rambutans I ate when I was a little girl were fresh from the tree. When it was rambutan season, I just have to stretch my arm and pluck the rambutan from the tree, peel the skin, aa...mm... chew...chew...phui out the seed.

But, our rambutan tree was chopped down a year ago bcoz the root of this 30+ year-old tree stretched so far that it ruined the house. My neighbour still has the rambutan tree.

Lemon grass, a must-have in cooking tomyam and curry. Since we have it in the yard, don't have to buy in the market. It's very expensive in the US.

Banana tree. See the green banana?

Cili padi. Fuyoh... I sure cry eating this.

Papaya, it's very good to eat.

We call this Indian leaves because you put a stick or two in the pot when cooking curry.
